Why Leveraging Technology Is The Key To Improving Healthcare
Recently published in Forbes, you can’t open an industry publication today without reading how technology is improving healthcare. The walls of paper records that used to dominate physician offices are giving way to cloud-based electronic health records (EHRs). The bring your own device (BYOD) movement has empowered caregivers to use medical apps on their phones and tablets in the workplace. 3D printers are creating models for surgical planning and even making custom implants. Robots are assisting surgeons and physical therapists. Gene mapping is opening new horizons for individualized care.
Still, I think we could be doing more to ensure that technology is created and deployed to benefit patients more broadly. My particular focus is helping patients navigate the full range of care spaces, from the doctor’s office to the hospital to the home. My company is currently working to translate our healthcare expertise into post-acute care coordination through technology. In the process, I’ve seen that there are still many ways the healthcare space in general could leverage technology for better patient care.
